*Ocflute-Tenor in F ~ Sapele
About This Product
Overview
Over the years, the name "ocarina" has become a generic term describing any instrument with an enclosed chamber rather than an open tube. In this respect, the ocflute is a true ocarina, but because it is turned on the lathe, its shape is reminiscent of the blockflute, or recorder. Thus the name "OcFlute."
My Tenor OcFlute (ocarina/flute) is in the key of F and has two sub-holes giving it a range of D4 to Ab5. The left little finger operates two sub-holes taking the range from the tonic note of F down to D. It also features a double hole for the right hand little finger to facilitate the playing of F#.
The OcFlute combines the beautiful tone of the ocarina with the elegant lathe-turned profile found on 18th century woodwinds. Click on thumbnail at left for larger images and more information.
It is made of beautiful African Sapele wood. A thick corduroy drawstring carrying bag and fingering chart are included.

Charlie’s work at its best. I’ve had my tenor OcFlute only a couple days and it’s already one of my favorites. Good sound, especially the high notes. Requires less precise breath pressure control than the soprano. Very easy to play. Love the sub hole. And it looks beautiful. I’d recommend this instrument to anyone serious about learning the ocarina, or to any discerning collector.

This is a beautiful instrument! The sound is delightful, and perfectly suited to the Renaissance tunes I tend to play (as well as the music from certain Tolkien-based films). This feels exactly like a cross between a tin whistle and an inline ocarina, and I love it!
